2015 Recap & 2016 Goals

FILED IN: Personal

With each passing year, I like to take some time to reflect on my accomplishments as well as think up some goals for next 365 days of my life. It is so important to stop and think about how far you’ve come. You deserve it! It is also equally as important to consider your new goals for a new year. As soon as you think you are the best thing out there, everything will start going downhill.

2015 has been one of the best and worst years of my life so far. Granted, bad things happen every year.  Keeping all Debbie Downer thoughts out for the rest of the post, let’s jump right in… I’m not gonna lie, trying to remember just how far I’ve come was HARD.

2015 Accomplishments (Photography & Personal)

  • Professional Photography Diploma
For two years I went to college 400+ miles away from home to get the education I wanted. Two years in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend who I had been used to spending time with everyday. I spent two years learning more about my passion and getting to know so many amazing souls. It was tough, but it was SO worth it.

– I got to meet my favorite senior photographer, Amanda Holloway, and gawk at her while taking in all the knowledge she shared with us.

– I won some categories in the school’s print competitions. I don’t really remember the exact number. I think I took home 4 awards this year? That was the day my uncle passed away, so you can’t really blame me for not remembering…
– Had my work showcased in a local coffee shop.

– LEARNED A LOT. Lighting, posing, business, etc.
  • Created my own .com
Not a huge accomplishment, but it was nice to FINALLY have that professional webpage with my name all over it.
  • Officially started my business

This year I realized my worth and knew that I would have to make things official as soon as I graduated. I had been building my name during the time I was attending college, so I knew things would be crazy once I was officially back. Now, I’ve photographed 70+ paying clients in the last 7 months and profits have skyrocketed compared to last year! My highest sale this year more than doubled my highest sale last year, and my new average is $500 – $600. I no longer needed a part time job!

  • Taught my first Mentor Session
In the end of May, I was fortunate enough to teach my very first Senior Photography Mentor Session. She was one of the nicest ladies I have ever met, and I learned a lot from her too!
  • Leased my own studio
It’s pretty small. A total of 310 sq ft, but it’s treated me well. Located in the Downtown Bismarck, while still being hidden from the world, is exactly what I was looking for.
-IPS (In-person sales)
One of the main reasons I wanted this space was to be able to meet with clients face-to-face to help them pick out images and products.
  • Got engaged!

My love proposed with a little fireworks show over the 4th of July!

  • Booked a seat for the Kitchen Sink Workshop

Remember that amazing photographer I mentioned earlier? Well, I booked a $2500 workshop seat in Texas for the end of May. I’m not crazy, just passionate!

If you need more convincing, just head over to her website and check out the details:

  • Bought my first home

November 6th I moved out of my parents house and into my very first home! I’m a trailer park girl now, but I got a hot tub and a great view of the wildlife in our backyard. We’re living the redneck dream!

  • Got a kitten

So this really isn’t an accomplishment either. I just wanted one for SO LONG.

2016 Goals (Photography and Personal)

  • Higher Average Sale
  • Plan wedding
  • Healthy Lifestyle
  • Get more images featured
  • Blog more
  • Faster Turnaround Time
  • Team up with Boutiques
  • Teach more Mentoring Sessions
  • Be more ogranized
Sincerely & Passionately,
– Jessica
